INTRODUCTION TO STANDUP

Email booking@jmscomedy.com for more information and to register for the next Introduction to Stand Up course

This course is dedicated to laying out the basic "How Tos" of standup, but we will also spend time developing material that is personal to each of you, with some writing assignments to get the wheels turning from week to week. The goal of this class is not to be a professional working comedian in 4 weeks. It's to push you past all the blocks that have prevented you from fully diving in until now and get comfortable doing the work of being a comedian. The process of creating comedy is truly the most magical part of being a comedian and this is getting you on the training wheels bike, and then removing the training wheels.

We're building habits, finding our voices, learning to trust our instincts and learning that even the rough sets are making us better, through this class. Most veteran comedians will tell you that the early days of the journey are truly some of the most magical, and I am so thrilled to be a small part of that for each of you.

Each class will go up to 3 hours depending on how much material everyone brings, with equal time offered to each person in class. Any unused time at the end can be an open forum for questions/more pitches/etc.

For this class, I will be putting you all in an accountability Instagram group. We will use this for accountability for doing mics and checking in about working on material, as well as just having a place to chat comedy with other comics who are starting this journey, too.
